What Drowning Really Looks Like

A couple of years ago I came across an article on drowning.  Every year I repost the article because every year when I reread the opening paragraph, it gives me goose bumps. It’s information everyone needs to know and even if you’ve read it before, it’s a great reminder as we head into the summer season.

I’ve seen one person drown and a handful of others be pulled out of the water either by a lifeguard or by friends. None of those people were thrashing in the water in what we think of as typical drowning fashion. Please read and share. It literally could save a life.

When Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

  1. I almost drowned when I was 5 years old. I’m now 30, and the event was traumatic enough, that I still vividly remember every detail of the occurrence. It seemed like an eternity before the lifegaurd ever even realized i was drowning. Reading the article, I felt myself starting to suffocate. As a nanny, having been thru a drowning incident myself as a child, I have always erred on the side of caution around water with my charges. Thank you for posting this for everyone.
