Q.
I’ve used a company that isn’t listed.  How do I get them added?

A. Simply send an email to info@NannyBizReviews.com with the company’s name and any contact information you have.

Q.
How up-to-date is your information?

A. Each company listed was contacted to verify the accuracy of the information during the development of this site in May 2011.  If they didn’t verify their listing, it’s noted in their profile.

I make updates, additions and deletions as they’re submitted.  Each year, every business will be asked to review and update their listing.

If you have an update or find incorrect or out-of-date information on this site, please email info@NannyBizReviews.com.

Q.
Do companies pay to be listed?

A. No, every company whose services are focused on nanny care receives a free listing.   However I do offer companies the option of purchasing an enhanced listing.  With an enhanced listing their logo, contact information, website link and other information are added to their profile.  They also have the option of spotlighting jobs available.  An enhanced listing DOES NOT allow them to include false or misleading information in their profile or improve their ranking.

Q.
Do companies that buy an enhanced listing or advertise with you get a higher ranking?

A. No.  I appreciate my enhanced listing customers and advertisers – I’m in business to make money after all – but the integrity of the ranking system trumps sales.

Q.
Do companies pay you to review them?

A. No.  I review businesses only if I have enough information to provide a comprehensive evaluation of them.  My goal is to highlight the great ones and warn parents and nannies about the trouble spots in the not so great ones.

Q.
What do you base your reviews on?

A. I’m looking at the business’s commitment to quality nanny care, expertise in the field, ability to successfully guide the client through the placement (or tax or screening) maze and overall customer service.   I base my review on my business dealings with the company, their overall reputation in the industry and the experiences of my nanny and family clients that have used them.  I use the same rating categories as visitor reviewers.  I’m just coming from a much broader perspective.  And because I know what the ideal is, I’m a much tougher critic.

Q.
How are overall ratings and ranking determined?

A. The site uses Bayesian weighting to calculate overall ratings.  It’s designed to prevent people from “gaming the system.” A company with 1 review, 5 stars will be rated lower than a company with 100 reviews and 4.9 stars. Bayesian weighting calculates “rating trust”.  The rankings are based on overall rating.

Both user and editor reviews are included and equally weighted in the overall ratings.

Q.
Are all the user reviews from real people?

A. I did not import any ratings or reviews for this site.  In fact, before I started developing this site I didn’t even know you could automatically generate fake reviews with a simple plugin.  If I could rate that idea I’d give it a big, fat zero stars!

I’ve put safeguards in place to dissuade companies from reviewing themselves and individuals from submitting more than one review.  However I cannot guarantee I’ve created a 100% sure fire way of preventing it.  I do promise that if any fake or multiple reviewers are revealed, that information will be included in the company’s profile.

Q.
Who are you and why should I listen to you?

A. I’ve worked in the nanny industry as a caregiver, organization leader, trainer and consultant for over 20 years.  (See my full profile here.)  The two questions I’ve been asked the most are “Where do I find a great nanny?” and “Where do I find a great job?”  There are hundreds of placement agencies and dozens of online job sites that offer to help.  Some are great.  Some are shockingly bad.  And there are a lot in between.  Unfortunately it’s really hard to know which ones are which from the outside.  So I decided to share what I’ve learned over the years, provide a way for others to share their experiences and offer a user-friendly tool to help parents and nannies get the answers they need.  Because I can’t do anything simply, I had to add all the other topics employers and caregivers are interested in like taxes, background screening, nanny training, related reading and other interesting tidbits.   My hope is that you find this site helpful.

Q. How do I get my business listed?
A. Fill out a submission form. It’s that easy!
Q. How do I get my listing taken down?
A. I don’t remove listings unless the company goes out of business. If there is incorrect information listed, I’d be happy to update your listing.
Q. The information contained in my listing is incorrect. How do I change it?
A. Please email me with the correct information.
Q. Does it cost to be listed?
A. No, every company whose services are focused on nanny care receives a free listing. However I do offer companies the option of purchasing an enhanced listing.
Q. What is an enhanced listing?
A. An enhanced listing gives you the option of responding to your reviewers plus adds your logo, full contact information, links to your website and social media pages, descriptive langauge, a narrative, and share buttons at the bottom of your profile.  It’s a great way to improves your visibility and drive traffic to your site.  Visit our advertising page for all the details.
Q. How much does an enhanced listing cost?
A. Order now and you can take advantage of intro pricing.  I don’t know the exact date, but the rates will be going up once I launch the site to the public.
Q. Can I write my own copy for my enhanced listing?
A. Absolutely, as long as it doesn’t contain any misleading or false information. I retain the right to edit the information submitted.  If for whatever reason you don’t approve of the edit, I’ll happily give you a full refund.
Q. Does an enhanced listing improve my overall ratings or make me rank higher?
A. No. Overall ratings and rankings are based solely on reviews.
Q. Are you going to review every business?
A. No. I only review a business if I have enough information to provide a comprehensive evaluation of them.
Q. What do you base your reviews on?
A. I’m looking at the business’s commitment to quality nanny care, expertise in the field, ability to successfully guide the client through the placement (or tax or screening) maze and overall customer service. I use the same rating categories as visitor reviewers. I’m just coming from a much broader perspective. And because I know what the ideal is, I’m a much tougher critic.
Q. You wrote a negative review of my business. How do I get it taken down?
A. My goal is to share my honest opinion about nanny-related businesses with visitors. It isn’t to hurt an individual company. My reviews, both positive and negative, stay up unless the business changes the way it does business. If you feel that’s the case, please email me.
Q. Someone submitted false information and/or a negative review of my business. How do I get it taken down?
A. All reviews are the personal opinion of the reviewer. Although I retain the right to pull any review, in general I only remove reviews in extreme cases. If the information is objectively and factually incorrect, please email me.
Q. How do I respond to a negative review?
A. Only businesses with enhanced listings have the option of replying to reviews.  If you have an enhanced listing, simply post a response.  Make sure to include your name.  If you don’t have an enhanced listing, please consider purchasing one. Why this policy?  As much as I love what I do, this is my business.  I only have a finite amount of time and when deciding where to invest that time, it’s important to balance providing a valuable free service to visitors and maintaining a healthy bottom line.
Q. Do all the reviews come from real people?
